Modern Sampler Borders, Sunflowers, Ribbing, and a Class from The Cozy Quilter

In order to make my Modern Sampler quilt bed sized, I need to add borders.  I decided to make one of the borders pieced with 2.5" squares.  I cut out lots of squares and then made them into twosies.  Some of them have been sewn into longer chains but that's as far as I got this week.  Next time I sit down at the sewing machine, I will work on this again.

My Sunflower cross stitch is 3/4 done!  My goal of having this done by the end of October is achievable, I think.  I will keep ...

Fall Leaves, Sunflowers and a Swatch from The Cozy Quilter

A couple of weeks ago, I pieced a fall leaves wall hanging and this week, I quilted and bound it.  The background fabric is Essex linen and the print fabrics had all been in my stash for several years. My goal for this project was to use up almost all of these fabrics while making a gift for my MIL.  I quilted it with straight lines using my walking foot.

I used the Essex linen for the binding and hanging sleeve and finished off the hand sewing this afternoon.

Here is the finished wall hanging, ready to bring to quilt ...

Packing up for another Retreat! from The Cozy Quilter

My friend, Christine, and I are off to another quilting retreat this weekend!  The weather looks good and won't interfere with our plans.  I have packed several projects to take with me including the Lupin Quilt (all of the blocks are made and the sashing and borders are cut out and ready to go):

A comfort quilt for the local women's shelter using bird blocks made by members of the Elgin Piecemakers:  (all sashing, cornerstones and borders are cut) The last block was given to me last week.

My modern sampler quilt: (all blocks made and the fabric ...

Love Birds Ready to be Framed from The Cozy Quilter

And just like that, Love Birds is done!  I took a picture of me making the last stitch in the Bride bird's hat.

The fabric is white but the lighting in my sewing room tonight was not the best for taking a picture of the entire wreath with the Love Birds in the middle.  This project was stitched on 14 count white Aida cloth and took 6 months to complete.  I will be washing it and then taking it to the framers sometime in the next couple of weeks. I am going to take pictures of the framing options ...

Two Finishes and some BOM Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

It has been a while since I have had a finished project to share on my blog (besides placemats), and this week, I have two!  This blue colour block quilt is made from 2.5" squares from my blue scrap bin.  I found some really fun crayon fabric for the backing and even added a label already, even though I have not written on it yet.  This quilt will be set aside for a future baby gift. Most of the fabrics repeat in the quilt so lots of fun to be had for some little one trying to find the ...

A Finished Quilt Top from The Cozy Quilter

I pulled out various colours to use for sashing for this blue colour block quilt including orange, golden yellow and red.  As you can see, red won!  The sashing was cut 1.5" wide and finishes at 1".  I will have to piece the backing of this quilt and I will likely add some medium blue solid binding when it is quilted.

I have a bunch of quilts ready for walking foot quilting, most of which are already pin basted...I need a chunk of time and also must clear off my sewing table to do this.  This is difficult ...

Making Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

Happy Easter!

Lucky for me, the colour of the month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is Blue for April.  I had already started making blue blocks for my Colour Block Challenge quilt for April so these two challenges will be met together.  I ended up making 12 medium/dark blue blocks and then found I had a stack of light blue squares as well.  I made 4 light blue blocks and put them all up on the design wall to consider my next steps.  I looked at my stash and found some red solid fabric which I will use for ...

Slow Sunday Stitching and a Couple of Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

I finally got back to working on my Modern Sampler BOM blocks this week.  I was four blocks behind before this week and now I just have three more to do to catch up!  I have a bin with my fabrics and block patterns in it so it is out on the sewing table now so I can get them done! My focus fabric has glasses on it and then I am using orange and blue stripes and dots for the other fabrics with the gray hash dots for the background.

I put another blue colour block together as a ...

Challenge Quilt Done from The Cozy Quilter

I have never used more than one or two colours of thread to quilt one of my projects before this week.  Last year, the Oxford Quilt Guild issues a challenge to make a quilt using blocks with 15 2.5" squares and 5 flying geese.  I proceeded to make 16 blocks, each a different colour, without repeating any of the fabrics in the blocks. Each block contains 25 unique fabrics.  The blocks have been sitting in a bin in my sewing room for a couple of months while I thought about how I might set them to make my quilt ...

Found my Sew-Jo! from The Cozy Quilter

I have had a productive week in the sewing room!  I think those scrappy colour blocks that I was making last week got me going again and this week I was on a roll.  First, I quilted and bound my January Colour Blocks quilt.  I considered a cross hatch but ended up with diagonal lines of quilting using light gray thread.

Green solid fabric was used for the binding.

I will add a label shortly.

I made a pink block for my Rainbow Scrap Quilt for this year.

I noticed after it was on the design wall that I made ...

A Little of This and a Little of That from The Cozy Quilter

The November Modern Block of the Month pattern was released this week at the Twilight Quilt Guild blog, so I dug out my fabrics and got sewing.  The chevrons were paper pieced. The glasses fabric will appear in every block in my quilt along with other assorted dots and stripes in orange and navy.  I was afraid I was going to run out of the gray hash dot background fabric but managed to find some at a localish store and had them ship it to me.

I added the final borders to my Summerhill quilt from Mary Elizabeth Kinch's ...

Progress on Many Fronts! from The Cozy Quilter

I have been working on these modified Geese Migration blocks for the last couple of months with the aim of making 16 different coloured blocks from my scrap bins.  Each block has 25 different fabrics in it so there are 400 different fabrics in this quilt!  There was no noticeable difference in the volume of scraps in any of my scrap bins after making these blocks, so I will have to come up with another scrappy quilt to use up some of these scraps.  Each block is 10.5" square.  I am not sure how I am going to set ...
